Osina E.A., Shaboltas A.V. Psychological Factors Influencing the Success of Inpatient Treatment of Patients with Coxarthrosis: A Review of Modern foreign Studies

The article presents an analysis of modern foreign studies devoted to the role and influence of psychological factors on treatment success of patients with coxarthrosis in a short-term hospital. The relevance of the study is due to the high prevalence of coxarthrosis as a severe disabling disease of the musculoskeletal system, the high costs of inpatient and surgical care, a growing body of data indicating the importance of psychological components in the success of treatment and rehabilitation of patients, as well as the fact that traditional biomedical models do not sufficiently explain variability in clinical treatment outcomes.

Objective: to conduct a systematic analysis of foreign scientific papers and empirical studies of key psychological factors and determinants affecting various aspects of successful short-term hospitalization, including acute pain control, treatment adherence, early activation, and subjective patient satisfaction.

Methods. Foreign scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed using the databases PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar for relevant keywords.

Results. According to foreign studies, the success of treatment in a short-term hospital in patients with coxarthrosis is determined by a complex of interrelated psychological factors. The most significant include: emotional-affective states (primarily anxiety and depression), cognitive processes (pain catastrophization, self-efficacy), behavioral coping strategies, and social support parameters. These factors have a significant impact on the perception of pain, motivation for rehabilitation and general adaptation of the patient in the postoperative period.

Conclusions. The results of foreign research and practical developments in the field of psychological support for patients with coxarthrosis are interesting and useful from both scientific and practical points of view. At the same time, domestic research is needed to identify the specifics of the role and influence of psychological factors on the short- and long-term success of treatment of coxarthrosis in our country. The integration of psychological status assessment into the standard clinical protocol for the management of patients with coxarthrosis in the hospital is a necessary measure to personalize treatment and improve outcomes. The development and implementation of short-term psychoeducational and cognitive-behavioral interventions within the framework of a multidisciplinary approach may become a promising direction for optimizing short-term inpatient care.
